“Living the Aloha Spirit”

Celebrate a Hawaiian Theme for National Nursing Home Week 2014

“Living the Aloha Spirit” is the theme for National Nursing Home Week® (NNHW), May 11-17, 2014.

To Hawaiians, the word “aloha” has a deeper significance than just a fond farewell. By Living the Aloha Spirit, we show others love and respect and joyfully share life in order to create a better world. Key attributes of the “Aloha Spirit” include patience, kindness and good feelings and respect in caring about others. Embracing Aloha-Centeredness will cast a warm glow throughout your center and community.

The goal in long term and post-acute skilled nursing care centers is always Person-Centered Team Care in a harmonious, caring environment. This is “Living the Aloha Spirit!”

For NNHW 2014, we urge every nursing care center to live the “Aloha Spirit.” Promote messages throughout the week that demonstrate the qualities of: Patience, Kindness, Harmony and Good Feelings in Caring and Respect for Others.

Recreation Therapy In Action

We have some pretty amazing Recreation Therapists out there! We would like to highlight what they are doing and share some of the wonderful activities they are doing with our clients. If you would like one of your activities, programs or events to be highlighted please submit them to tracy@trconnections.com.

Here is our first “Recreation Therapy in Action”: A packet of seed story & activity-compliments of Mindy and Lisa from Rocky Mountain Care in Tooele. For this activity you read the short story and follow up with passing out seed packets to your clients. Once your clients have picked out the seeds they want have your clients plant them either in the community garden or in a cup. Thanks Mindy and Lisa for the great idea!
