Recreation Therapy in Action
When Lynn Dell at Heritage Park Care Center needs to do a fundraiser, she gets her clients involved by having them create the items and then selling them. Having your clients make the items and sell them gives them a sense of accomplishment and belonging. It also reaches the following goals:
Psychological Goals:
To increase self-awareness, acceptance, and congruence through
a) developing awareness of personal attributes and capacities,
b) acceptance of strengths and limitations, and
c) providing opportunities to express identity in a variety of contexts.
Environmental Goals:
To increase community engagement and empowerment through
a) constructive engagement in the community,
b) empowerment related to having a meaningful voice and role in the community, and
c) opportunities to serve others.
